Our Best Advice for Dating Older Men
Dating older men isn’t any more difficult than someone your own age, but here are a few things to consider when you decide to widen that age gap.
1. STIMULATE INTERESTING CONVERSATION
Older men have lived longer and have had countless more life experiences than you. They are interesting and they are wise and can hold incredibly engaging conversations, so match them. If you are interested in dating older men, you need to be able to hold your own conversationally.
2. BE AS STRAIGHT-FORWARD AS YOU CAN
As you age and develop you learn huge amounts about yourself, it’s natural. As a result of this you get to know exactly what you want – emotionally & sexually. Older partners are less inclined to play games and so you should return the favor. Being coy, or otherwise obfuscating any true intentions are a huge waste of time. Be straight with your desires and it will go a long way, older men understand how to communicate in a no-bullshit fashion, so do the same or you might find them moving on to somebody more emotionally mature.
3. UNDERSTAND ANY SOCIAL DIFFERENCES
The idea of heading out til 6 in the morning might fill you with glee, but somebody older.. not so much. In most cases a younger person’s social life is just a bit too hardcore for the more senior. There will be exceptions of course, but just consider that you’ll likely have different opinions over what might constitute as fun.
4. DON’T NEGLECT HIS ADVICE
What you’re doing and where you’re going seem exciting, new and strange to you. But probably not to an older man. They know more than you so before you discount any “When I was your age..” pearls of wisdom, understand that they genuinely know better. Don’t let your ego get in the way of legitimate advice.
5. ULTIMATELY, TREAT HIM LIKE ANYBODY ELSE
Putting him on a pedestal, constantly referring to him as a sugar daddy is going to turn whatever sort of relationship you have into a novelty. If you want to forge something worth having then you need to be on the same wavelength and treat the partnership like you would any other one. There will be unique aspects to the relationship but their foundations are identical.
